What we check on a digital compact camera before it goes online – and what we don’t.

What we check

  • Powering on: the camera starts reliably
  • Display: working display
  • Menu operation: menu opens, navigation and confirmation work
  • Shutter: fires reliably and saves the photo
  • Memory card: is detected, photos are saved reliably
  • Zoom, if available: operates smoothly over the entire range

What we don’t check

  • Battery life
  • Wi-Fi and GPS, if available
