What we check on a flash unit before it goes online – and what we don’t.

Zündung
Wir prüfen, ob der Blitz zuverlässig auslöst. Ältere Blitze arbeiten teils mit hohen Spannungen, die moderne Digitalkameras beschädigen können.
Not checked: die Zündspannung. Prüf sie vor dem Einsatz.
What we check
- Firing: the flash fires reliably
- Charging behavior: the unit charges and is ready to use again
- Battery compartment: visual inspection for corrosion
What we don’t check
- The guide number and actual light output
- Compatibility with a specific camera or its automatic settings
- The firing voltage
A note on firing voltage that may be important: Some older flashes operate at high voltages that can damage modern digital cameras. Check this before using it with a digital camera.
The condition ratings used here
Good, Acceptable, and Defective. Flash units are not rated as partially defective, fungus-affected, or having a defective flash – a flash either fires or it doesn’t.
For details on what each rating means, see Condition of Accessories. You can find an overview of all product types under Item Condition.
