Battery disposal

Information on the disposal of old batteries

The following notice is intended for those who use batteries or products with built-in batteries and no longer resell them in the form in which they were delivered (end users):

1. Free return of used batteries

Batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. You are legally obliged to return used batteries to ensure proper disposal. You can dispose of them at a municipal collection point or at a local retailer. As a battery distributor, we are also obligated to take back used batteries. However, our obligation to take back is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried as new batteries in our product range. You can therefore either return used batteries of the aforementioned type to us with sufficient postage or hand them in free of charge at our shipping warehouse at the address listed in the imprint.

2. Meaning of the battery symbols

Batteries are marked with the symbol of a crossed-out wheeled bin (see below). This symbol indicates that batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. For batteries containing more than 0.0005 percent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 percent cadmium by mass, or more than 0.004 percent lead by mass, the chemical name of the pollutant used is located below the wheeled bin symbol – where "Cd" stands for cadmium, "Pb" for lead, and "Hg" for mercury.

Description

Zenit Helios-44-2 58mm f/2 Lens (M42)

Condition and Limitations

Condition: good used condition.

Slight signs of wear on the body are possible (for example, small scratches or scuffs).

58 mm with Deliberately Chosen Sharpness

The Helios-44-2 combines a 58 mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/2. On a 35mm camera, its field of view is slightly narrower than that of a 50mm standard lens. This is interesting for people and details if you want to deliberately design the distance to the subject. You focus manually; the workflow with two aperture rings is an essential part of this model.

How the Preselection Aperture Works

With the preselection, you first determine up to which aperture value the second ring should close. To focus, you open the aperture. Before exposure, you turn the control ring back to the previously selected limit. You do not have to search for the numerical value again after each focusing. This is a different process than with a later Helios with a camera-operated spring diaphragm.

Design via Distance and Aperture

At f/2, the maximum aperture is available. A smaller aperture increases the usable depth of field with otherwise identical settings, while the exposure may require more time or higher sensitivity. For a calm portrait, you can first choose the shooting distance and then assess the background effect in the viewfinder. A certain bokeh effect or guaranteed image quality is not derived from the model name.

M42 and Manual Adaptation

The offered version has an M42 mount. Its manual aperture operation can be operated separately from the camera-side shooting process, which can be helpful with a suitable mirrorless adaptation. The lens is therefore still focused manually. The Helios-44-2 mount is also to be distinguished from the Helios-44M-4: Its different aperture mechanism should not be equated with the preselection operation described here.
