What is a folding camera?
An analog camera with a fold-out bellows or lens section. When folded, it fits in your jacket pocket; when unfolded, it is ready to shoot.
How does it work?
When unfolded, the bellows extends between the lens and the film back. You release the shutter by hand, often via a cable release or directly on the lens.
What is the difference between a bellows camera and a folding camera?
All fold, but not all have bellows. The bellows allows for a variable lens distance and thus focusing; other models fold the lens rigidly.
What film do I need?
Mostly 120 roll film, which is still available today. Early models use formats that are no longer produced – a look at the product description is worth it.
How many pictures fit on a 120 film?
- 6×9 cm: 8 shots
- 6×6 cm: 12 shots
- 6×4.5 cm: 16 shots
Can I use modern films?
Usually yes, as long as it is 120 film. Some older models need special spools. If that is the case, it is stated in the product text.
How do I focus?
Many folding cameras have a distance scale that you set by eye. Higher-end models offer a rangefinder or a focusing disc.
Do I need a light meter?
Very few folding cameras have one built-in. An external one helps you choose the appropriate aperture and shutter speed.
Is it complicated?
On the contrary. Precisely because there is so little technology in the way, you focus on the essentials. Once you have pulled out the bellows, you usually understand the appeal immediately.

Every camera is unique – logos, serial numbers, and visual details may vary. We do not take test shots on film.
How do we assess the condition?
Folding cameras are assigned one of four classes: Good, Acceptable, Partially Defective, or Defective. Which one it is, you can see from the symbol at the top left of the product image and as a line below the price. More about this: How we check folding cameras.
What is included in the delivery?
Usually only the camera. If accessories are included, such as a bag or manual, it is stated in the product title.
How long does shipping take?
Shipping times and payment methods can be found under Shipping and Payment.
How do I return an item?
On the Returns page, you can request a return. Regardless of this, your statutory right of withdrawal applies.
